Cheerleading Tryout Pointers...
Skills
Left, Right, and Middle Splits (Hands on Hips Completely Flat, Legs Locked, Toes Pointed).
Tips: Hold side splits for one minute while reaching forward, then one minute while reaching
in a touchdown position, and then another minute reaching forward. You can do super splits
by elevating the back knee. Middle splits can be stretched by holding a wall straddle for three
minutes. Straddle rolls are also great for middle splits. Straddle rolls transition from pike sit, to straddle sit,
to middle splits (hold 30 seconds), to back straddle, to back pike, and then reverse. Do 10 repetitions.
Toe Touch, Left and Right Hurdler, Left and Right Herkie, and Pike (Prep will be a high V. I will be looking for good preps, proper execution, and great height).
Tips: V-up sit ups, straddle leg lifts, and tuck jump drills.
Back Walkover, Front Walkover, Back Handspring, Back Tuck and Running Tumbling.
Tips: Practice!!!
Right and Left Heel Stretch (hold for one minute with toe pointed and legs
locked.
Tips: Get into right side splits. Lay your stomach flat to ground, grab your right
foot with your right hand, and hit a high v with your left hand. Do the opposite
for your left side. You can also hold your heel stretch against the wall to pull
your leg in tighter (increases flexibility). Hold your free heel stretch as long
as possible!
Stunting
Positions-Flyer, Back Spot, Main Base, and Secondary Base.
*All positions need to have strong cores, legs and arms!
Stunts-Elevator, Extension, One Leg Extension with Flair, 360, Basket Toss, and Twist.
Tips For Flyers: Stretch for flexibility and Work on flairs with a partner hugging you to
pull your body closer together. Flyers should do a lot of core work! Flyer can strengthen
ankles and work on balance by standing on a BOSU ball.
Tips for Back Spots: Back spots are supposed to hold more weight than anyone else in the stunt.
This person needs to be very strong! Do a lot of push-ups…Normal, Wide arm,
triangle, and hand stand push-ups!
Tips for Bases: Work on proper stance and posture. Do a lot of full body work and conditioning!
Tight strong cores make you less likely to arch when holding flyers at an extended level.
Tipsfor all: Core Work - sit-ups, plank holds, crunches, and leg lifts.
Leg work - squats and lunges.
Arm Work - Push-Ups and weight lifting.

The majority of your motions should be hit with your hands in fists. All motions should be hit
so tightly that it burns!
Voice: Voices should be loud and with Proper Inflection. Cheer from the diaphragm!
Tips: Sound like a man! If you flex your abs, you are most likely cheering from the
diaphragm. You will be louder, deeper, and have more control of your voice when you cheer from the
diaphragm!
